Combat Basics
Overview of the combat system in Starfinder
Combat in Starfinder is a structured sequence of rounds and turns in which characters and enemies take actions to attack, defend, move, and use abilities. Each combat round represents about 6 seconds of in-game time. During your turn, you can take a standard action, a move action, and a swift action, or you can take a full action instead. Attack rolls are made by rolling a d20 and adding your base attack bonus, ability modifier, and any other applicable bonuses. If the result equals or exceeds the target's Armor Class (either EAC for energy attacks or KAC for kinetic attacks), the attack hits and you roll damage. Starfinder uses a Stamina Point and Hit Point system where Stamina Points represent your ability to shrug off minor injuries and can be recovered with a short rest, while Hit Points represent actual physical damage that requires healing.
