The shirren are an insectoid species who broke free from the telepathic hive mind of the Swarm, gaining individual consciousness and free will. This traumatic liberation left the shirren with an almost obsessive love of personal choice and individual expression. They find joy in the smallest decisions and deeply value the democratic institutions of the Pact Worlds that protect individual freedom.

Shirren are insectoid humanoids with chitinous exoskeletons, compound eyes, and antennae. They have three sexes: male, female, and host.

Shirren culture revolves around celebrating individuality and choice. They love voting and democratic processes, sometimes holding votes on trivial matters just for the pleasure of making a choice.
